Roku Updates Android App to Support Local Video Streaming
Once again, Roku is upgrading its “Play on Roku” feature, which now lets you beam any videos you’ve taken with your Android phone or tablet to the big screen through a Roku box. The update is available now in the Google Play store.
Samsung Galaxy S4,
HTC One,
Nexus 4 and the 2012 version of the Nexus 7.
It’ll only work with devices running Android 4.0 and up in general, and your Roku player will need to be at software version 5.1 or later.
When asked about whether or not Roku would be expanding the “Play on Roku” update to more Android devices in the future, a Roku representative told TG: “The fragmented Android market certainly adds challenges. Though we are always working on improvements, we don’t have any additional details to share beyond what we have already published.”
